Small Grants in Antarctic Science for Early Career Researchers

The Antarctic Science Foundation (ASF) has 6 grants available for early-career scientists (ECRs) from 2026 to July 2027. These grants are for up to $5,000 AUD. For this period, the ASF is targeting assistance to ECRs for:

  • Travel and support to attend the Australian Antarctic Research Conference 2026,

  • Travel and support to present scientific research papers at other science conferences and science workshops,

  • Travel to points of embarkation for Antarctic scientific fieldwork, or

  • The purchase of specific technology for research.

Apply to info@asf.aq

Your application should be approximately one page in length, and no more than two pages.

Please ensure that your application addresses:

1.        The use of the grant (e.g. purpose of travel, purchase of equipment)

2.        The need for the financial support (i.e. that support is not available elsewhere).

3.        What you will achieve with the grant.

4.        A short statement from your direct supervisor or manager that verifies that what you have requested is valid and relevant for your research, and that these funds are not available elsewhere. Please ensure you provide a contact email for your supervisor.

Applications close 07 July 2026

The ASF would especially like to thank the Tasmanian Polar Network, Tasports, and Tasmanian Shipping Supplies for supporting this round of ASF grants to early-career researchers.
