Traversing the COVID gap: Antarctic Science PhD Scholar Support Grants 2021

The Antarctic Science Foundation’s purpose is to understand and protect the Antarctic region and our planet through scientific research. The Antarctic Science Foundation brings together all people who believe in the value and potential of Antarctica to provide the answers we need to sustain our way of life on this planet.  We share with our supporters a vision of a better future for all life through scientific research. We converse with Antarctica in commitment and respect. Together we back dedicated, tenacious people to be curious as they confront uncertainty in extreme conditions. Together, we ask the beautiful and important questions that promise pathways of human flourishing for generations to come.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a fundamental impact on the University sector. The Foundation has identified PhD students as particularly vulnerable to financial hardship at this time. We are concerned by the high percentage of students whose potentially productive careers are at risk as they consider dropping out of their PhD studies due to financial stress.

We recognize future research excellence in Antarctic science relies on this generation of Antarctic researchers. Therefore, the Antarctic Science Foundation is offering a limited number of grants of up to $5,000 to future Antarctic research leaders to assist them in completing their PhD.
