National Science Week Competition 2025 - Winner Announcement

Calling all Young Antarctic Researchers - Decoding space with Antarctica

A huge thank you to all the students who took part in our Science Week Competition! We were truly inspired by the creativity shown in your artwork and the curiosity demonstrated through your enthusiastic participation in the quiz. It is wonderful to see such bright minds engaging with science and exploring the mysteries of our world — and beyond! The Antarctic Science Foundation is proud to celebrate your passion for learning, and we look forward to seeing even more brilliant ideas and discoveries in the future.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the parents/guardians and teachers whose encouragement and support made this event possible. Together, you are helping to nurture the next generation of scientists, explorers, and innovators.

Winners K-2 Category

The artwork we received was so amazing that we decided to award special prizes for Kindy, Year 1, and Year 2. The creativity, colour, and imagination in these entries were truly inspiring — every piece showed a wonderful way of looking at science through young eyes.

Our winner in the Kindergarten category is Vyronika Karajan with her poster Facts about Antarctica. Congratulations and great work Veronica!

In the Year 1 category, we would like to congratulate joint winners Kayden Jayasinghe (Penguins & Aliens) from Good Shepherd Catholic PS, Springfiled Lakes, QLD and Inayah Ismail (Antarctica & Southern Ocean)from …..for the creative work. Well done Kayden and Inayah.

During National Science Week 2025, the Antarctic Science Foundation (ASF) invited Young Antarctic Researchers to explore the connection between the Antarctic and space.

In our presentation, we delve into fascinating facts about Antarctica and uncover its surprising connection to outer space. We learn how this icy, remote continent serves as a testing ground for space missions through analog research, helping scientists prepare for journeys to the Moon and Mars. We explore why Antarctica is the world’s premier location for finding meteorites, how its unique environment makes it an ideal spot for astronomy, and the crucial role satellites play in advancing Antarctic science by monitoring climate and environmental changes.

Use your knowledge to complete the quiz.
