More About Taimoor

Taimoor is a post-doctoral research associate in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at UNSW Sydney. His research has been focused on understanding the processes that drive sea ice and ice shelf melting around Antarctica. From understanding how floating ice shelves form, grow and disappear on long timescales to exploring the impact of buttressing on the flow of ice sheets off the continent, he has been fascinated by the complex relationship between Antarctica, the global climate, and our place in the world.

Taimoor holds a PhD in Earth Sciences from the Australian National University and a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Lafayette College, USA.

Current Research

He is interested in developing and using new diagnostic frameworks to understand the global ocean, including through water mass analysis. His work at UNSW focuses on using highly underdetermined hydrographic datasets to infer mixing processes and surface forcing in the global ocean.
