Congratulations to Professor Tony Haymet for his appointment as Australia's Chief Scientist
The Antarctic Science Foundation extends its congratulations to Professor Tony Haymet who has been announced as Australia’s Chief Scientist. [ https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-01-28/ed-husic-discusses-the-appointment-of-australias/104865974 ].
Professor Haymet joined the Antarctic Science Foundation in 2020 and was appointed Chair of the Board in November 2021. He has made a significant contribution to the Foundation’s work in support of priority Antarctic and Southern Ocean science.
The ASF thanks Tony for his generous commitment of time as Chair, and although the ASF will miss his important contributions to the work of the ASF, we wish him all the best in his new and challenging role.
Professor Haymet rightfully resigned from the Board of the ASF upon his appointment as the Chief Scientist.
The Board announces the appointment of Ms Cheryl Walmsley as Chair of the ASF and warmly welcomes her into this role.
The ASF also wishes to announce the appointment of two new Board Members, Dr Indi Hodgson-Johnston (Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies), and Mr David Sinclair (Islands & Ice Travel Pty Ltd).
