Lisa Craw - Glaciologist

Meet Lisa

Lisa is a glaciologist focusing on ice shelf dynamics and recently submitted her PhD at the University of Tasmania. She started her academic career as a structural geologist in New Zealand but pivoted to studying ice (which is technically a rock!) during her MSc and PhD because she is fascinated by the way micron-scale processes in ice can influence the flow behaviour of entire ice sheets. Her research focuses on the physical properties of ice, such as its chemical content and grain-scale structure, and how differences in those properties affect the viscosity of the ice. This may seem like a niche topic, but her findings can be incorporated into large-scale ice sheet models and influence our predictions of ice sheet response to climate change.
